The 2024-25 NBA season is rapidly approaching, with preseason just a few weeks away.
This year will undoubtedly be one with plenty of fireworks, with NBA giants battling it out on a nightly basis, roster turnover and an influx of talent from the 2024 NBA Draft.
At the other end of the spectrum are the worst-placed teams in the league who will be competing for positions in the 2025 NBA Draft. When predicting positions, most NBA experts have either the Brooklyn Nets or the Washington Wizards as the worst-placed teams in the league in 2024-25.
Sure, there will be other teams vying for the bottom spot, like the Pistons, Trail Blazers and Spurs, but most teams just have more top-tier and reserve players overall.
Brooklyn and Washington's talent shortages are likely by design. As two of the league's freshest rebuilding teams, both are looking to acquire top talent in the 2025 draft, including Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper, Nolan Traore and V.J. Edgecomb.
But who really deserves the title of the worst team in the league heading into this season?
For now, that title belongs to the Washington Wizards.
The Nets traded their best player, Mikal Bridges, during the offseason, but they still have the ability to win games every night if they get it right. Center Nic Claxton is a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, and Cam Johnson, Dennis Schroder and Ben Simmons are veterans who can play, not to mention Cam Thomas, the team's new No. 1 scoring option.
Washington has a ton of young players drafted recently, but very few who can truly impact the game at a high level. Brooklyn will likely need to continue to trade veterans to get to this level, but that should be the plan.
Either way, both teams will be looking to add one in next year's 2025 NBA Draft.
