Demi Förering and Marianne Voss spent Wednesday morning scouting the World Championship course in and around Zurich. This was no easy task, as there were only two chances to complete the entire lap. The Dutch riders have not yet arrived in Switzerland and will use this opportunity on Friday to check out the lap.
The World Cycling Championships in Zurich are for the elite athletes, but paracycling also plays a key role on the schedule. The first road race for paracycling takes place on Wednesday, with the rest of the races running through Sunday. Juniors, U23s and elite women are also included, so there's little opportunity to see the course in advance.
The first was from 8:00-10:00am on Wednesday, and the second from 12:15-1:45pm on Friday. Use these times to see the entire 27km loop. Belgium's Lotte Kopecky and Julie de Wilde opted to do the loop early on Monday, while the Netherlands' Vollering and Voss were spotted in downtown Zurich on Wednesday morning.
Vollering lives in Meggen, a 45-minute drive away, so that's not so much of an issue for her. Voss has spent a lot of time in Andorra in recent weeks with Robert Gesink and others, but also chose to land early in Zurich to see the course for herself. Li-Janne Markus was there as the third Dutch woman, and of course the Dutch Junior and U23s, who race on Thursday and Friday, also did a reconnaissance on Wednesday.

O'Connor and Pellizzari performed well on the World Championship course
Looking at his Strava performance, U23 World Time Trial Champion Ivan Romeo was already in great form during the reconnaissance, with the Spaniard doing the whole lap quickly, while the KOM of Zürichbergstrasse, the most difficult climb of the round, was won by Ben O'Connor on Wednesday, while the Viticon segment will be won by Giulio Pellizzari.
