USA U-20 WYNT vs. Netherlands:
This is the Netherlands' third FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, and the second consecutive year they reached the last four before being eliminated in the semi-finals. The United States and the Netherlands have only played once in this tournament, and it was the first time in two years. In group play in Costa Rica, the Netherlands won 3-0. For America, this loss effectively meant they had to defeat Japan in the final group game, but the young Americans were unable to do so, and Japan advanced to the final and lost to Spain. In this match, the two countries will face off against each other in the group stage. The USA won 2-0 in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final held in Lyon, France. The United States and the Netherlands have one common opponent in this tournament: the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The Asian champions outscored the Netherlands 18-4 and the Americans 18-7. South Korea completed 11 corner kicks, compared to just one for the Netherlands, and 12 for the Americans compared to three. The United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea were evenly matched in possession, but South Korea had a slight advantage over the Netherlands. The Netherlands had an interesting tournament, winning only two of their six matches: against Costa Rica (2-0) and against France (2-1). ) However, it was one of the best results of the tournament, as they overcame Colombia twice to tie the score at 2-2 in front of a sold-out crowd in Cali, then beat the hosts with a penalty shootout win. The Netherlands have scored nine goals in this tournament, but have conceded 10. The Netherlands qualified for the Women's World Cup through the 2023 UEFA Women's U-19 Championship held in Belgium last summer. The Netherlands advanced through their group, defeating Germany, Austria and the host nation, and reached the semi-finals of that tournament. Although the Netherlands lost 1-0 to Spain in the semi-finals, their place in Colombia had already been secured. Seven different players scored Holland's nine goals, with Ver Bulman and Fleur Steut scoring two each. All Dutch players play for professional clubs in their home country's top division, Eredivisie Vrouen.
