HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Michael Brescia scored two touchdowns and ran for 270 yards for Colgate University, and the Raiders beat Cornell University 41-24 on Saturday in the Big Red's season opener.
Trailing 17-10, Brescia had a 44-yard scoring run 11 minutes, 6 seconds before halftime. With 3 minutes, 54 seconds left in the half, Brescia ran in from 1 yard out to finish off a nine-play, 58-yard drive that lasted 5 minutes, 12 seconds. Colgate led the rest of the way.
Chris Gee ran for 79 yards on 15 carries, Brescia ran for 77 yards on 11 carries, Marco Maldonado ran for 73 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, and Winston Moore ran for 31 yards, reaching the end zone once on just two carries.
Jake Stearney threw for 184 yards and a touchdown for Colgate (1-3).
Jameson Wang threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Samuel Musungu to give the Big Red a 10-3 lead. Colgate fought back and Stearney threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Brady Hutchison to tie the score. Wang threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Parker Woodring early in the second quarter to give Colgate its final lead.
Wang completed 29 of 37 passes for 313 yards and three touchdowns.
