Alex Megos has started a new YouTube series called “Road Rage” where he tours famous off-piste climbing areas. His first video features a stop in Sheffield, England, where he climbs a classic Jerry Moffat route called Sean's Roof in Blackwell Dell.
In 1995, while recovering from an injury, Moffat quickly completed his unfinished project, which he named Progress 5.14c. He then made the first ascent of Sean's Loof, a 5.14b summit, which was later downgraded to 5.14a. That same year, Moffat upgraded his four-year project to Evolution 5.14c. The first person to re-climb Sean's Loof was Mark Leach, who had been the first British climber to summit 5.14a in 1988. After redpointing Sean's Loof, he summited it without a rope, which at the time was considered the hardest free solo climb in the world.
“Sheffield is one of the most iconic climbing destinations of all time,” Megos said. “I was thrilled to be visiting one of the birthplaces of wooden boards, hard training and dirtbag rock climbing. Just before calling it a day, a beautiful little cave appeared on the side of the road and I just had to give it a go.”
