No. 20 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Kansas State both suffered disappointing losses in the Big 12 last week, but with the expansion to 12 teams, they still have a shot at winning their conferences and making the College Football Playoff. The two teams face off on Saturday at noon ET with a chance to bounce back with a key conference win. The Wildcats host the Cowboys, who are 6-point favorites in the Week 5 college football odds, according to SportsLine consensus.
Meanwhile, in another Top 25 matchup, No. 9-ranked Penn State in the Big Ten holds a 17.5-point home favorite over No. 19 Illinois. So, should you bet on Penn State vs. Illinois or Oklahoma State vs. Kansas State? And what Week 5 college football lines should you bet on this weekend? Top college football predictions for Week 5
One college football pick the model rates highly for Week 5: No. 16 Notre Dame (-6.5) to beat No. 15 Louisville by double digits in a matchup at 3:30 PM ET on Saturday. Louisville ruined Notre Dame's season last year, so the Fighting Irish are in for some big revenge this week. Quarterback Riley Leonard has already scored six rushing touchdowns for Notre Dame in blowout wins over Purdue and Miami (Ohio).
Louisville is on the road for the first time this season and ranks 90th in passing yards allowed, so Leonard has a chance to use his arm and legs to spread the field on Saturday. The Cardinals have already struggled to slow down the mobile quarterback this season, and this is a bad matchup for them. Notre Dame has covered the spread in five of their last seven games, and our model has the Fighting Irish covering in 60% of the simulations. See the rest of our college football picks for Week 5 here.
Another prediction: No. 21 Oklahoma (-2.5) will comfortably beat Auburn on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff. The Sooners made their SEC debut against Tennessee last week, losing 25-15 at home. But the Sooners held the Volunteers to nearly 40 points less than their season scoring average this week, and the change in quarterback from Jackson Arnold to Michael Hawkins Jr. seemed to revitalize the offense down the stretch.
Hawkins led the Sooners on two fourth-quarter scoring drives, completing 11 of 18 for 132 yards and a touchdown, and ran for another 22 yards. Meanwhile, Auburn was lackluster in a 24-14 loss to Arkansas last week and scored just 14 points against California, its only game against a strong conference opponent. That's a big reason why the model projects Oklahoma to cover the spread in more than 60 percent of simulations on its way to its first SEC win in program history.
